Code of conduct proposal (June 2024)
A proposal was made by a member to adopt a code of conduct as part of the general terms of participation in the Guild. The Board has agreed in principle and proposes the following code:
The New York City Homebrewers Guild strives to be a welcoming, fun, and learned organization. Our members are held with integrity and in respectful esteem by all who participate in the corporation; and by extension to the greater Homebrewing and Craft Beer Industry.
Guild members must maintain a respectful demeanor to members and others at ALL NYCHG functions (organized by the Guild or otherwise).
Harassment in any form is not tolerated. Harassment includes, but is not limited to: inappropriate and unwelcome physical contact and sexual attention; verbal language that reinforces social structures of domination related to gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disabilities, neurodiversity, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, religion, or other protected category; sexual imagery in public spaces; deliberate intimidation; misogyny; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; offensive verbal language. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Non-compliance may result in expulsion from the Guild without the reimbursement of dues.
Guild members are expected to maintain the same level of respect and integrity they extend at in person events on any and all Guild communication channels.
The proposal was announced at the June 2024 meeting. Members may submit comments on the proposal to any Board member until the July 2024 meeting, at which point the Board will consider adoption of the code.
